Nutritional advice for sick animals
Pets with certain diseases require special attention. These animals can experience this condition just for a short period of time or it can last longer, even for a life time. In certain situations, your pet can experience changes in his/her metabolism that are accompanied by different nutritional needs. Always based on scientific evidence, we provide your pet with the best option to fulfill all nutritional requirements taking into account the specific needs for his/her condition. This can be achieved by using the most appropriate commercial diet, individualized homemade diet and the addition of nutritional supplements. We offer you advice and tips about how to feed your best friend. A higher success rate is achieved when the appropriate diet is selected and it is offered in the correct manner.

Nutrition usually plays an important role in the treatment of various illnesses or complaints. Nutritional advice is appropriate in the following cases:

Commercial diet for adult and senior animals: 85 euros (including VAT)
Homemade diet: 115 euros (including VAT)
Puppies/kittens, gestation and lactation: 115 euros (including VAT)

How we work
- Please fill out the form about the nutritional history and accommodation of your pet (pdf at the bottom of this page) and send it to dienstvoedingkhd@ugent.be
- We always work in collaboration with your referring vet and trust on his/her clinical research. This is of vital importance to make up a solid nutritional advice.
- We assess the current nutrition.
- We advise you when your pet needs to switch to a different nutritional product - if necessary and always after careful consultation with you (the owner)
- We make a calculation of the nutritional amounts needed, adapted to the individual needs of your pet.
- We provide regular follow-up and adjustments if needed (this might imply extra costs).
